About this stay

Restful Riverside Retreat with Timeless Charm

Nestled alongside the roaring Big Sur River on scenic Highway 1, this historic inn unfolds a quiet escape where the past is gently preserved amid rugged nature. Dating back to the 1930s, the lodge offers simple, TV-free rooms that emphasize a slower pace, inviting restful mornings with the sound of flowing water just beyond the windows. Free Wi-Fi and free parking provide effortless convenience without overshadowing the rustic, unplugged experience.

The river is more than a backdrop here; guests can settle into chairs set directly in its shallow edges, the cool water lapping around their feet, creating a rare harmony of nature and comfort. Casual dining in the on-site restaurant captures the unpretentious, easygoing spirit of the coast, where hearty meals and local wines are enjoyed alongside panoramic views. Though the accommodations lean toward modest, the welcoming energy and unique ambiance of this place hold a cherished appeal for those seeking a bright pause from everyday rush.

Imperfections mingle with authenticity throughout the inn, from rooms layered in rich wood slabs to the morning chorus of birds and river. Nearby attractions such as Pfeiffer Beach and McWay Falls offer memorable day excursions, but returning to this riverside haven feels like coming home to nature’s embrace.

“Didn’t stay but I had to cancel my reservation due to scheduling change. I found out that in booking.com I had to pay entire booking to cancel even though the booking was 40 days apart. Gabe helped resolve the issue and helped with cancellation. Appreciate it especially they didn’t have to do it”

“Sleep under the embrace the coast’s giant redwoods while listening to the bubbling river. The room I stayed in was on the river side on the second deck with a great view over the river soaking chairs down below. To be able to rest in a room lined with some of the largest natural wood slabs I’ve ever seen was magical. The rooms were quite dated but still very comfortable and clean. Just to be able to wake up in...”

“We didn't stay here, but we stopped by while dealing with a medical situation. There is no cell coverage in Big Sur. It was a busy long weekend. The staff were very helpful in letting us use their phone and office, despite us not being guests of the venue. Our presence, no doubt, caused a huge interruption to their day, but they were generous, kind, and supportive with a smile all along. The venue looked lovely. We'll definitely be stopping...”
